From code to canvas: Hyntelo's AI art journey at EDIT Cult

Art, Design, and Artificial Intelligence—what could they have in common? A few months ago, we wouldn’t have imagined needing to answer this question, but now that the sixth edition of EDIT Napoli has concluded, we definitely have some answers.

Claudia Campone, from Thirtyonedesign, invited Hyntelo to participate in the Neuro-philia exhibition, which was part of the EDIT Cult program of EDIT Napoli and hosted at the Museo Civico Gaetano Filangeri. The exhibition explores the connections between the brain, neurological tissues and digital technologies, in dialogue with weaving and plant-based fibers. Neuro-philia invites visitors to discover the delicate balance between natural and artificial intelligence, symbolized by the intricate ties that bind them.

At Hyntelo, we asked ourselves how AI could help decode human emotions, which led us to create two multi-sensory installations that illustrate this process. These artistic pieces, housed in the museum’s library, explore the complex dialogue between human and artificial intelligence through the lens of emotions, aligning with the central theme of Neuro-philia.

Installation 1: Sentiment Analysis

The first installation, “ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, sentiment analysis”, offers a sensory exploration of the iconic Beatles song.

Using advanced AI software such as OpenAI - ChatGPT, Dall-E, Anthropic - ClaudeAI, Microsoft - Copilot, and Hugging Face - distilBERT, the installation deconstructs the song, analyzing each verse to reveal the intensity of five key emotions: Joy, Fear, Sadness, Anger, and Love.

The goal is to uncover the hidden emotional landscape within the lyrics and melody, creating a perceptible emotional map from the musical experience. Through this semantic and emotional analysis, visitors are invited to reflect on how AI can interpret and translate human emotions.

This process, in which sophisticated algorithms "read" and "feel" a song, challenges traditional distinctions between humans and machines, encouraging reflection on the empathetic potential of technology.

Installation 2: Generative Texture

The second installation, “ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, generative texture”, focuses on the interpretative and aesthetic dimensions.

Here, AI, using Microsoft - Copilot and Dall-E, has generated a series of visual symbols based on the emotional analysis of the Beatles song. These symbols are then integrated into a fabric, creating a tangible artwork that merges symbolic and material elements.

The fabric, resulting from the interaction between human creativity and the machine's generative capabilities, becomes a metaphor for the intricate patterns that represent both neural connections and social interactions. Through this technique, combining materials and meanings, visitors can physically experience the outcome of a creative process that is both human and artificial.

This installation suggests that creativity, even when mediated by machines, can benefit from the fusion of emotion and computation, offering new forms of expression.

Reflections on the Dialogue Between Human and Artificial

Both installations represent a meeting point between the natural and the artificial, between human intuition and algorithmic logic. Hyntelo, the AI Solutions Company behind them, prompts reflection on how AI can become an extension of our ability to understand, process, and represent the emotional world.

“ACROSS THE UNIVERSE” thus becomes not only a tribute to human creativity but also an invitation to consider the constructive potential of a dialogue with AI, a dialogue that could enrich our own way of feeling and interpreting reality.

A special thank you to the Hyntellers who approached this project with such enthusiasm and open-mindedness: Giulia, Nunzia, Gherardo, Claudia, Alberto, Eva and of course Giacomo, who eagerly embraced this challenge.
